How Bohemian Style Shaped Artisan Made Jewelry

How Bohemian Style Shaped Artisan Made Jewelry

Bohemian style is all about not conforming to the current fashion and accessory trends of any given time period. Bohemian fashion trends are vibrantly colored and layer upon layer of flowing threadbare fabrics. When we think of Boho style, we most often conquer up the vision of the nineteen sixties and seventies flower children with their colorful costumes, long flowing hair, their wrists adorned with numerous bangle bracelets, long beaded necklaces and feathered earrings. The Boho chic jewelry trend is very popular today even though its creation was centuries ago.

The Beginning of Bohemian Style

During the eighteenth century, the French artists became poor after the French revolution because the war sent the economy into turmoil and there were no means for people to buy what these artisans created. They were forced to wear worn out, used clothing and started the concept that the artist, in the way he looked, was a work of art in itself.

Throughout the nineteenth century the Victorian era brought about the industrial revolution creating a great stir for the individuals that believed the past hand crafted textiles, and handmade jewelry was of better use. They would organically dye fabrics, wear the loose flowing fabrics and reject the restrictive corsets and stifling fabrics of the current fashion trends.

The New Boho Chic

The common trend of Bohemian style is in the long flowing garments, the many bangle bracelets, long multi-numbered beaded necklaces and the large hoop or dangling earrings. The need for the garments and the accessories to be handmade jewelry and textiles is very important to stress the uniqueness of the fashion trend. The colors and patterns of the fabrics and the gem stones set in sterling silver jewelry or gold most definitely do not have to match, which by definition of Boho chic, is exactly that.

Bohemian style and its fashion accessories are all about a cultural experience of centuries gone by. Artisan made jewelry and fabrics dyed and produced by hand are all elements of the Boho chic jewelry and fashion experience. Handmade jewelry and other style elements create the unique look that these creative geniuses have mastered.
